Point and Shoot - Martha Rosler

On the occasion of the Hermes Lecture, the Stedelijk Museum 's‑Hertogenbosch presents Point and Shoot.

Martha Rosler is prominent in the world of the conceptual and socially critical art that flourished in the 1970s and beyond. With a career spanning more than four decades, she continues to influence new generations of artists. Rosler, who lives in New York, works with video, photo collages, photo-text, installations and performances. Her work is a personal commentary on the contemporary world – often from a feminist’s perspective – and how our images and perceptions are influenced by our surroundings.

The SM’s presentation of Point and Shoot is Martha Rosler’s first solo exhibition in the Netherlands. For this she presents a selection of the videos she has made since the 1970s. The exhibition also includes two recent series of photo collages: the Iraq Series from 2008 and a series of flower photos from New York (1990–2004). Where the videos represent the full range of her themes, the choice of collages illustrate the two extremes of her work: contemporary social criticism on the one hand, and her personal environment on the other.
